Iowa Storm Center has issued a Weather Advisory for a series of storm systems that will begin to take hold on the area this coming week, so read on for details…
After a brief lull in the pattern, the storm track will target Iowa beginning Monday January 16th and going through the last week of the month. A ridge across the northern part of the nation that has brought above average temperatures will move east by the second half of the weekend which will open the door for several troughs (storm systems) to pass through the forecast area. The Iowa Storm Center models have the first system Jan. 16-17th with rain/snow and a stronger storm system shortly after on Jan. 18-20th. If you are traveling the middle to back half of the week, I highly encourage you to check back since this will be the strong storm system with potential wintry impacts. This pattern will also support a few clipper systems through the second half of the month.
BRIEF OVERVIEW WITH FIRST SYSTEM: The first storm front will work into the area after 12 AM Monday with rain showers increasing across the state and given dynamics, some thunderstorms will also be in the cards with this. Then cold air will work into the system Monday evening changing rain over to wet snow across northwest to north central Iowa before the system exits later Tuesday evening.
I will be monitoring the systems coming this week and handle all alerts and articles at that time, so stay tuned to Iowa Storm Center.com for further updates.
