Upper Level Low To Deliver Showers And Thunderstorms Tonight Through Saturday.

An upper level low will bring showers and thunderstorms to the area later tonight through Saturday so read on for the full details…

Scattered showers and thunderstorms will begin to form later this evening across northwest Iowa. A few of these will be capable of hail and gusty winds but this threat should gradually diminish by late tonight. This first wave will continue to work east into central Iowa overnight into Friday morning. Additional pieces of energy will pivot around the low later Friday morning and through the afternoon/evening time frame leading to additional scattered storms. The instability numbers are just enough to support a few strong storms Friday afternoon across central Iowa with main concerns for perhaps some hail and gusty winds. That said, this won’t be anything big in terms of severe weather. This activity should eventually wain by Friday evening but another round of scattered showers will still be possible across the state on Saturday with primary focus across eastern Iowa.

Finally, precipitation should come to an end by later Saturday night as the upper low will move off into the Ohio Valley by Sunday. Rainfall amounts will vary on your location due to the scattered nature of this event. Some spots are likely to see under a quarter of an inch with other areas that can cash in under a heavier thunderstorm.
