(IowaStormCenter.com) — Strong storm system to bring showers/thunderstorms and accumulating snow to the Midwest Saturday through Sunday.
A Colorado Low will develop Friday afternoon with scattered showers and thunderstorms to initiate during the evening over SE South Dakota through SW Minnesota and into NE Nebraska which may be strong initially.
This activity will spread into northwest Iowa by Saturday morning with a rainy day on tap over far northern Iowa.
Once Saturday afternoon hits, a broad area of dew points in the upper 50s to lower 60s will extend over a large portion of Iowa coupled with a layer of instability nosing up into the area ahead of the cold front.
Confidence is lower on this side of the forecast and this is something we will continue to fine tune. However, forecast solutions would suggest that redevelopment can occur around mid to late afternoon with the potential for a low-end risk of hail and wind.
The window should be brief from southwest/west central Iowa through the center of the state before instability quickly erodes over the area Saturday evening.
Additionally, another weak system may follow Sunday afternoon through the evening with a minor round of rain/snow mix but not anticipating any snow accumulation.
