(IowaStormCenter.com) — A strong spring-like storm system will bring rain, snow and strong winds Tuesday through Wednesday.
The upper level system will emerge into the central plains by this evening with scattered showers and thunderstorms increasing across the area after midnight heading into Tuesday morning.
Then the main axis of moisture will work up into Iowa Tuesday afternoon where thunderstorms and small hail cannot be ruled out over the southern portion of the area.
Once Tuesday evening hits, rain will begin to transition over to heavy wet snow across far west/northwest Iowa around 6 PM. This will continue to spread east through central Iowa during the overnight and finally eastern Iowa Wednesday morning.
Additionally, strong north/northwest winds will accompany the backside of the storm system with gusts of 50-60 MPH and blizzard conditions possible Tuesday evening through Wednesday midday.
We will finalize this forecast soon with timing and snowfall amounts released then, so stay tuned.
