(IowaStormCenter.com) — An upper level system is forecast to work across the north and central plains Friday/March 14 through Saturday/March 15 with a variety of dynamics for the Midwest.
While exact timing will need to be narrowed down, signals are growing on at least some shower/thunderstorm threat during the period with a layer of moisture and instability surging northward.
This may lead to a severe weather threat though confidence remains lower on timing and location of severe risk preventing any introduction of probabilities right now.
However, confidence is high for wind gusts of at least 35+ MPH across the entire Midwest during the storms stay, potentially damaging due to the magnitude of the system.
Then a snow risk will coincide on the northwest side of the surface low across North/South Dakota, though lower confidence at this distance on exact placement of risk area.
The forecast has multiple moving parts which will need further refinement, but one thing we do know at this distance is that strong to potentially violent wind gusts will accompany the system. We will continue to fine tune the winter and severe risk areas.
