(IowaStormCenter.com) — A heightened severe threat will extend over the area late Friday afternoon through the evening with all hazards possible.
Strong southerly surface winds with gusts of 35-45 MPH will surge moisture and instability northward ahead of a heightened severe weather threat late Friday afternoon through the evening.
The focus will extend over southwest to central Iowa around 4-5 PM for severe thunderstorm development along an axis of dew points in the 50s.
Despite an area of limited low-level shear, strong vorticity in the northeast quadrant of the surface low should compensate to support a couple of tornadoes in addition to the hail/wind threat.
Then this activity will merge into a line as it quickly works east across central and eastern Iowa during the evening with threats of large hail, damaging winds and small spin-up tornadoes.
We will do a follow-up on this when Friday hits, but that is what I have for you right now.
