(IowaStormCenter.com) — A strong pacific system will bring heavy snow to southern Iowa on Sunday, January 5, 2025.
An upper level system will move into the plains today with light snow to arrive across west/southwest Iowa after 6 PM this evening.
Once Sunday hits, the system will curve east to bring a deformation zone through southern Iowa around 8-11 AM with hourly snowfall rates of 0.5-1.0″ for a time. Additionally, this activity will eventually move up into central Iowa during the afternoon and through the evening.
Then all precipitation will taper off from west to east late Sunday night with the highest amounts over far southern Iowa and a sharp cutoff on the north side given dry air, the reason for the shift from previous forecast.
