Milder temperatures continue through Friday, changes next week.

Milder temperatures continue to be the theme across Iowa this week but then things will change so read on for the details…

We will continue to see milder temperatures through Friday as a ridge of high pressure is placed across the western US which basically has put us in what I like to call a “blocked” pattern, meaning any events we do get across Iowa will likely be very light and starving for moisture. So currently we have clipper systems passing through the northern plains and into the great lakes overtop the ridge which for the most part has kept Iowa fairly dry besides Tuesday night’s light rain event. I mentioned back a couple weeks ago that changes may be coming by early to mid December and that’s what we are starting to see. By the end of this week the ridge will breakdown which will open the window for a storm trough to slide across the central plains next week. I am keeping a close eye on next Tuesday for a possible snow chance across Iowa and as confidence grows we will discuss this more in future updates. Another thing evident of this change is the colder temperatures that arrive early next week. Stay tuned to official forecasts from Iowa Storm Center.
