MAJOR SEVERE WEATHER EVENT TODAY – Friday, March 14, 2025 –
An upper level low will emerge into the plains this morning with gulf moisture surging northward. Since this is going to be long with a lot of details, we will summarize the main points below.
1.Strong southerly surface winds today with gusts of 35-45 MPH, locally higher possible.
2.The focus extends from southwest to central Iowa for severe thunderstorm development 3-5 PM late this afternoon.
3.Two areas of tornado potential, one near the surface low from southwest to central Iowa and a secondary threat along the low-level jet across southeast Iowa and points south
4.This activity will quickly work through central Iowa 5-7 PM while merging into a squall line capable of large hail, damaging winds 60-80 MPH and spin-up tornadoes.
5.Timing for Eastern Iowa will be 7-10 PM before this activity departs later this evening.
