Iowa Forecast: Warm Temperatures Today…Tracking Scattered Strong Storms This Afternoon

152

Similar to yesterday, a very warm day is expected for much of the state with high temperatures well into the 80s and even a few 90s back to the west. The system passing over the area today will be responsible for scattered storms today through tonight.

The Storm Prediction Center has highlighted the northern half of the state in the best chance for a few strong storms this afternoon into early evening. The main threats with this will be hail and gusty winds.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue to develop into northwest Iowa this morning as the low pressure system advances to the east. The focus will then turn to some redevelopment this afternoon and this is where a few stronger storms will be possible.

Lower confidence on this part of the forecast but a second round of storms may develop across west central Iowa overnight tonight leading into Thursday morning.

Here is total precipitation today through Thursday AM. Most of this activity will be hit or miss (scattered) with a 0.25-0.50″ possible, locally higher in spots. We have lower confidence on storms developing overnight tonight across southwest Iowa.
