A storm system will pass through the northern plains later today through Wednesday. This will give northern Iowa a chance of rain/snow this afternoon through this evening. Then by Wednesday we will see northwest winds increase across northern Iowa sustained 10-25 MPH with gusts 25-35 MPH before the system slides off to the east. Temperatures today and Wednesday will continue fairly mild with highs in the upper 30s/lower 40s for northern Iowa and 40s/50s for the southern portion of the state. Confidence continues to grow for a potent storm system late this week with a risk of accumulating snow across the southeast half of Iowa. This storm system has plenty of gulf moisture to work with for a high impact severe weather event in the south and a winter storm from the plains into the Ohio valley.
