After an active severe weather period this past weekend, today will feature mostly sunny skies statewide with high temperatures in the 70s/80s and even upper 80s into western Iowa.
Heat and humidity will build back into the state on Tuesday with highs in the upper 80s to lower/middle 90s. Heat index values will be pushing 95-100 in some spots across the state and even a few areas that may break records for high temperatures.
A cold front will slide through the area Tuesday night/Wednesday. This will bring dry air and high temperatures that will struggle to get out of the upper 60s/lower 70s on Wednesday. In addition to that, can’t rule out a few spotty showers along the front Wednesday.
Eyeing rain chances on Friday from a system working through the northern plains. Rainfall totals will likely be light with Friday’s systems. Here is total precipitation through the next 7 days.
The main takeaway is that a big warm up is in the cards Tuesday followed by a (fall) cold front that will bring in dry air and offer up some scattered rain chances both Wednesday and Friday. Have a great day!
