A potent storm system will begin to impact portions of the forecast area later tonight through Thursday evening. With the low pressure system tracking well to our south, this will still bring an axis of moisture into Iowa. An area of light snow will begin to work into west central and southwest Iowa 6-9 PM this evening with the activity continuing to spread to the northeast overnight into Thursday morning. Once Thursday hits, snow will continue in these areas before tapering off from west to east later in the afternoon and toward the evening time frame. In addition, we will have north/northeast winds sustained 10-25 MPH with gusts 25-35 MPH leading to blowing of snow during the storms stay.
Main impacts will be seen from southwest through central and into portions of eastern Iowa in a zone of 4-8″ of snow with localized higher amounts possible. Once this exits, milder temperatures will filter back in this upcoming weekend. Below is the snowfall forecast tonight through Thursday night.
