(IowaStormCenter.com) — Milder temperatures continue with the onset of our first storm system targeted for February.
Above average temperatures will continue through the upcoming weekend with highs in the 40s and 50s as a ridge works east into the center of the country.
Once next week hits, below average temperatures will set into the area with the onset of our first storm system surrounding February 5-7th. This would favor snow as the the primary precipitation type over the above average zone which hasn’t changed from the previous update.
The nearest I can calculate this will not be a big event for Iowa with light/moderate snow for most and a potential freezing rain threat into parts of central and southern Iowa, similar areas that were hit in December of 2024.
This system will have multiple dynamics with it including severe weather off to the southeast of the forecast area.
We will continue to fine-tune the evolution of the upcoming system with additional updates to follow later.
